The Chemicals

Conventional mattresses contain many chemicals that could be considered harmful to your body and our environment. These chemicals include polyurethane foam, formaldehyde, boric acid, antimony (a heavy metal similar to arsenic) and worst of all, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (also known as flame retardants). They are all wreaking havoc on your sleep and health.

The Quality

Latex mattresses are known for their durability. The average conventional mattress usually last 6-8 years. Compare that to an all-natural latex mattress, which can last upwards of 30 years! There are two processes that manufacturers use to make mattress cores in Latex beds. Dunlop and Talalay. Industry experts, and consumers’ opinion vary widely on which is better. At Roanoke Mattress we are huge fans of both, but for our customers we have chosen the Talalay process.

We chose talalay latex mattresses, because of their consistency and variation of feels. Based on feedback from our customers Talalay Latex Mattresses offer more comformability and tend to be a little more comfortable for side sleepers.

At Roanoke Mattress, we love to educate on the benefits of Latex. There are many retailers who tout Organic Mattresses and other eco-friendly terminology. A latex mattress CAN ONLY be called Organic if it utilizes Dunlop Latex. It will usually contain organic wool which serves as the fire retardant. The cover will be made of organic cotton, and all of its suppliers will have some type of organic certifications. Our latex mattresses ARE NOT considered Organic. We offer All Natural Latex Mattresses by Pure Talalay Bliss, The largest manufacturer and supplier of talalay latex. All of our Pure Talalay Bliss Mattresses are Okeo-Tek Certified, for no harmful chemicals, no off gassing, or petroleum based chemicals, and no PDBE's.

The Comfort

Latex mattresses offer superior pressure relief on your joints and muscles. Consumers who purchase a latex mattress report higher satisfaction with their purchase, compared to owners of conventional mattresses. Latex mattresses have a spring like feel to them that allows for you to sleep comfortably on the surface while not experiencing a sinking down feel associated with memory foam mattresses. The unique feel of latex is hard to describe, the best thing to do is to stop by our showroom on Williamson Road, across from The New Yorker and take one for a test rest today!
